Abstract

Keywords: Sosiolinguistics, Code Mixing, Dave Jephcott The study of sociolinguistics examines the relationship between language and society as well as the reasons why people talk differently depending on the context. Language is seen by sociolinguists as a part of culture, social interaction, and communication. Everyone has a particular communication style or speaks a different language. This permits the speaker to vary the vocabulary in a discourse in order to effectively convey his message. The merging of two languages is referred to as "code mixing" in sociolinguistics. One example of what may happen when codes are combined is the occurrence Dave Jephcott saw on his Instagram account. He is both a public figur and a celebrity with 428 K followers. Through social media sites like Instagram and YouTube, he conducts business and acquires sponsorships. The focus obejective of this study in Dave Jephcott’s Instagram caption posted. The focus objective of the study are the types of code mixing suggested by Hoffman and the levels of code mixing suggested by Suwito. The descriptive qualitative data gathering for this study employs the documentation approach. The results of the research also show that there are 25 data points in the different kinds and intensities of code mixing. Three clauses, seven phrases, two sentences, twelve words, and one ICP are examples of code mixing. There are no data at the HLCM or ILCM levels, but there are 12 WLCM, 7 PLCM, 1 RWCM, and 5 CLCM levels of code mixing. After analyzing and getting the results, the researchers found several code mixes in Dave Jephcott's Instagram caption. The data is classified into several types and levels of code mixing. Researchers used the types of code mixing proposed by Hoffman in the form of Intra-sentential code mixing, Intra-lexical code mixing, and Involving a change of pronunciation. Meanwhile, for the level of code mixing, the researcher uses the theory of Suwito, which consists of 6 levels, namely, word, phrase, baster, repetition, idiom, and clause. The data taken in the caption are 25 data or captions, and the most dominant data is at the "word" level
