Abstract

Keywords: Kinds of anchovy , Translation, Eugene Nida Translation Theories Indonesia as a maritime that most of its territory is oceans of course will make Indonesia have great potential in economy. One of the economic sectors that has become an advantage for Indonesia as a maritime country is the fishery sector. This fishery resource spread to all islands in Indonesia, one of those islands is Madura. The Madura fisheries sector contributes to producing marine products, common marine products in Madura are anchovies, shrimp, crabs, and tuna. The target marketing from this sector not only from domestic market, but also to foreign countries through export-import. In export-import process, a company must name their products using the language of the country the company comes from or the language of the country that will receive the company's product. Related to the language used to name products that will be exported to other countries, the researcher analyzed the naming kinds of anchovy from Indonesian to English using Eugene Nida's translation theory. Nida distinguishes equivalence into two, namely formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence. Formal equivalence focuses on the message and dynamic equivalence focuses on the function where the effect of the message given by the source language is the same as the effect of the target language message. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of research is field research. The main source used by researchers is the names kinds anchovy in PT. Kelola Mina Laut (KML) to obtain data. To collect data, researcher used observation, interviews, and documentation. The results shows the names of kinds of anchovies in Indonesia are mostly taken from the physical characteristics possessed by each type of anchovy. However, not all anchovies processed by fishery companies are marketed in the international market. Most anchovy products are marketed in the local market only because there is a lot of demand. While in the international market, interest in consuming anchovies is very low except for Japan. Only the rice anchovy type has entered the international market because the rice anchovy product, which is termed chirimen, is actually processed rice anchovy originating from Japan. In the translation process using Nida's translation theory, namely Formal Equivalence and Dynamic Equivalence can indeed help the translator in translating a term or word such as naming. Also the problem of the equivalence theory in translation is culture. Dynamic Equivalence can solve this problem, but it still difficult for translator when face the terms in language like in this research that has no meaning such as “Cemmik”, “Jikak”, and “Japo”. Translator will difficult to find the closest meaning from that term. So it can be said that a translator not only vi pays attention to the linguistic elements of each word, but also pays attention to cultural elements.
