Abstract

Key word: English learning achievement, Islamic boarding school. There are thousands of languages in the world and English is spoken as a first language by the majority of the population in many countries. English is taught from kindergarten up to high education all over the world. English lessons are very important lessons in this era globalization. Therefore, this lesson is a subject that must be taught in schools. Each student has different study habits according to their tastes, beliefs and conditions and the environment greatly influences the learning process, for example students living in Islamic boarding school with students who live at home have differences. The difference lies in the environment, student daily life and others. Therefore, a study was conducted with the aim to find out whether there is a difference and significant of students’ achievement in English subject between students living in the Islamic boarding school and students living with parents at MA Ainul Falah Bakeong Guluk-Guluk Sumenep. In this research, the researcher used a quantitative approach, while the type of research used was ex post facto. The researcher used independent t-test to compare the achievement of English Subjects between students living in the Islamic Boarding School and students living with parents. To analyze the data, the researcher used SPSS 20. Then, the collect to data the researcher used two instruments, namely questionnaire and test. While, the method used to get representative sample by the researcher is a purposive sampling technique and the number of samples needed is 20 respondents; 10 respondents who live in the Islamic boarding school and 10 respondents who live at home. Based on the data, the value of t-test is 0,682. The calculated r value is 0,682 > 0,444. Based on the data, it can be concluded that there is a differences in the average English subject between students living in the Islamic boarding school and students living with parents and based on the significant correlation criteria, the results obtained are not significant because the r value is greater than r table. the calculated rvalue is 0.504 > 0.05. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected, and the null hypothesis is accepted. It means there are not significant English subject between students who live in Islamic boarding schools and students who live with their parents at MA Ainul Falah Bakeong Guluk-Guluk Sumenep.
