Abstract
Keywords: Speech act, “The Kite Runner” Movie, J.L. Austin. Humans frequently make interaction with other humans in ordinary social life via communicating. Without even knowing aware of it, the conversations we have frequently involve parts of speech acts that are rarely mentioned directly. And sometimes we perform speech acts in our conversation without realizing what it was. There are three types of speech acts: Locution; illocution; and perlocution. Based on the explanation above, the researcher would conduct this research with two research focuses. The first is what are the types of speech act that appeared on The Kite Runner movie, and the second is how are the speech acts appeared in The Kite Runner movie. John Langshaw Austin’s theory is also used in this research, particularly in speech acts studies. This research utilizes a qualitative research method which is descriptive style and the type is library research. Collected data was gathered from The Kite Runner movie as the primary sources. While some books, journals, or notes as the secondary sources. The researcher collects data through observation and documentation, with the subject of the research is being The Kite Runner movie. The researcher used data analysis technique or also known as content analysis technique to organize and elicit meaning from the collected data and draw realistic conclusion from this technique. There are six steps in analyzing the data: unitizing; sampling; recording; reducing; inferring; and narating. And also the researcher used data triangulation technique to validate the data. Based on the research that has been conducted, there are two results that can be presented. The first is type of speech acts that appeared on The kite Runner movie, there was three (3) types: locution as much as seventeen (17) data; illocution as much as thirty two (32) data; and perlocution as much as twenty four (24) data. And the second is the speech acts on The Kite Runner movie were appeared through several ways, those are by identifying the dialogue; identifying the appearance, and identifying the characterization of the characters.
