Abstract

Keywords: TOEFL, skill, test, structure and written expression. TOEFL is a standardized test that measures a person’s ability to speak English without being directly linked to the learning process of teaching. Structure is a component of the TOEFL section test, which is divided into two parts: structure and written expression. The research focus from this research is the skill used by students in completing Structure and written expression Section of TOEFL test. The researcher used qualitative descriptive reseacrh. The researcher used qualitative descriptive research because the data will be described. This research will describe and explain the phenomenon of Students’ Skill in Completing Structure and written expression Section of TOEFL Test at the sixth Semester Students of Academic Year 2023 English Teaching Learning Program of State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Madura. The result is the students used several skill to completing structure and written expression section of TOEFL test. There are eight skill used by students, namely, be sure sentence has subject and verb, be careful of object of preposition, be careful of appositive, be careful of past participle, use parallel structure with comparison, Complete the sentence by matching the answer, understanding twelve tenses and sense.
