Abstract
Keywords: Teacher's Strategy, Speaking, 4.0 Era. The teaching of English especially speaking is very important for students in the era of 4.0. A successful teacher is a largely determined by the strategies teacher uses in the learning process. Learning English in boarding school is a challenge for English teacher. This is due to the many challenges faced by the teacher in providing modern learning in the midst of the industrial revolution 4.0 era which is still running today, where one of the problem is lack of media technology. Based on the statement above, so there are two problems that are the focus of this research, were: (1) what are the strategies used in teaching speaking skill in the era of 4.0 at MA 1 Annuqayah Putri Guluk-Guluk Sumenep?; and (2) how are the strategies used in teaching speaking skill at MA 1 Annuqayah Putri Guluk Guluk Sumenep?. This research is used qualitative with descriptive approach. The data sources obtained trough interview, observation, and documentation. The research setting at MA 1 Annuqayah Putri especially in eleventh grade of language and culture department 1. The subject is English teacher in eleventh grade of culture and language department 1 MA 1 Annuqayah Putri and the object are the strategies used in teaching speaking. The result of this study show that there are three strategies that used by English teacher in MA 1 Annuqayah Putri, there are assignment based teaching, storytelling, and discussion. Assignment-based teaching involves group work where students complete assignments give by the teacher that related with the material. The students then share ideas with friends, and present their results in front of the class. Storytelling strategy improves speaking skills and self confidence by having students to show one stories related to the material. Discussion strategy improves fluency in speaking skill by requiring students to discuss the material with their friends in English. The teacher randomly appointing students to convey the results of discussions. It make students feel importance in understanding and conveying the result of discussion well. By this research, the researcher expected the strategies found in this research can support English teacher’s professionalism in teaching speaking skill and can be used as a reference for the next researcher.
