Abstract

Keyword: Learning Strategy, English Language, Arabic Language This research find out the strategies are used by 9th grade students at MTS Taman Sari in learning Arabic and English language, in MTS Taman Sari there are two foreign language subjects (Arabic and English), as much as researcher know, learning only one foreign language, students must have difficulty in understanding it, what’s more learning two foreign languages at once. So, this attracts the attention of researchers to compile this thesis. There are two types of research focuses in this study. First, how do the students use the strategies in learning Arabic and English language at MTS Taman Sari Palengaan Pamekasan and the second what are the students strategies in learning Arabic and English language at MTS Taman Sari Palengaan Pamekasan. The researcher used qualitative approach with a descriptive kind of research. Researcher obtained the data from interview, observation and documentations. The informants for this research are MTS students, especially 9 grade of students who studied Arabic and English language in MTS Taman Sari. Based on the result of the study, there are several learning strategies used by 9 grade students in learning two foreign languages. in learning Arabic, the students used compensation strategies and social strategies, in learning English, the students used memory strategies, cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies. Types of learning strategies that already mentioned by Rebecca divided into two parts (direct & indirect). Direct strategies there are three parts namely 1. memory strategies 2. cognitive strategies 3. compensation strategies. in indirect strategies there are three parts namely 1. metacognitive strategies 2. affective strategies 3. social strategies.
