Abstract
Code-switching is a phenomena that happen in bilingual or multilingual societies like English lecturer use more than one language to communicate including in the process of teaching in English for Specific Purpose subject at fifth semester of English department at IAIN Madura. The lecturer used Code-switching during teaching learning process to help in delivering the material. In the process of code-switching the lecturer used two languages namely English and Indonesian. There are two research focus in this study. The first one is what are the types of Code-switching that used by the English lecturer in English for specific purpose class at the fifth semester of English department at IAIN Madura. The seond one is what are the college students’ perception towards the use of Code-switching by their English lecture in English for specific purpose class at the fifth semester of English department at IAIN Madura In this research, the researcher uses qualitative as an approach of this research. The researcher uses three instruments in collecting the data; observation, interview, and documentation. For analyzing the data, the researcher uses data condensation, data display, and verifying conclusion. Then the researcher uses triangulation of data source in checking the validity of data. The result of this research that found by the researcher are: the first, there are three types of Code-switching used by English lecturer in English for Specific Purpose class during teaching learning process, namely tag switching which 17 data, inter-sentential switching which 17 data and intra-sentential switching which 35 data. Second, all of students in TBI B class have positive perception towards the use of Code-switching by their English lecture in English for specific purpose class at the fifth semester of English department at IAIN Madura. Based on the result above, it is suggested for the students by understanding the types of Code-switching used by English lecturer, the students can avoid misunderstanding in interpreting their English lecturer. Alih kode merupakan fenomena yang terjadi pada masyarakat bilingual atau multibahasa seperti dosen Bahasa Inggris yang menggunakan lebih dari satu bahasa untuk berkomunikasi termasuk dalam proses pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk Mata Pelajaran Tujuan Khusus pada semester lima jurusan Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Madura. Dosen menggunakan alih kode selama proses belajar mengajar untuk membantu penyampaian materi. Dalam proses alih kode dosen menggunakan dua bahasa yaitu bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia. Ada dua fokus penelitian dalam penelitian ini. Yang pertama adalah jenisjenis alih kode yang digunakan dosen Bahasa Inggris Bahasa Inggris untuk kelas tujuan tertentu pada semester lima Jurusan Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Madura. Yang kedua adalah bagaimana persepsi mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan alih kode oleh perkuliahan bahasa Inggris mereka dalam bahasa Inggris untuk kelas tujuan tertentu pada semester lima Jurusan Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Madura. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan tiga instrumen dalam mengumpulkan data; observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Untuk menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi kesimpulan. Kemudian peneliti menggunakan triangulasi sumber data dalam memeriksa keabsahan data. Hasil dari penelitian ini yang ditemukan oleh peneliti adalah: pertama, ada tiga jenis alih kode yang digunakan oleh dosen Bahasa Inggris di kelas Bahasa Inggris untuk Tujuan Khusus selama proses belajar mengajar yaitu tag switching yang terdiri dari 17 data, inter-sentential switching yang terdiri dari 17 data dan intra-sentential switching dengan 35 data. Kedua, seluruh siswa kelas TBI B memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap penggunaan alih kode oleh perkuliahan bahasa Inggris mereka di kelas tujuan khusus pada semester lima Jurusan Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Madura. Berdasarkan hasil di atas, disarankan agar mahasiswa memahami jenisjenis alih kode yang digunakan oleh dosen bahasa Inggris tidak salah paham dalam menafsirkan dosen bahasa Inggrisnya. Disarankan bagi dosen Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman kepada dosen Bahasa Inggris tentang jenis alih kode dan persepsi mahasiswa.
