Abstract

This thesis describes the implementation of cat and mouse game which is used by the teacher in teaching English speaking skill. In this research, there are three research focuses. They are how does the teacher implement Cat and Mouse game on students’ speaking skill, what are the advantages of cat and mouse game, and what are the disadvantages of cat and mouse game on students' English speaking skill at seventh grade of SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan This research was qualitative research and used descriptive research. The location of this research was at SMP Ma’arif 5 Proppo Pamekasan. The researcher had two limitations, they were the teacher and the students at the seventh grade of SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan. Three instruments that were used were interview, observation and documentation. Beside that, the researcher used three techniques to analyzed the data, they were data reduction, data display and conclussion or verification drawing. The research findings of the implementation cat and mouse game on students’ speaking skill at the seventh grade of SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan were success. Based on the result of interview to the teacher and some students at the seventh grade of SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan, the implementation of cat and mouse game runs well and makes the students active to speak English. The teacher implemented the game based on the steps of the game. The advantages of cat and mouse game for a teacher are can teach speaking in various way, train students to be active and confident while for the students are, make students active and enjoyable in learning speaking, improve students speaking ability, make students understand easily what they learn, increase students enthusiasm in learning English. Based on the research findings above, this research is suggested for the teacher who is expected to be able to use other strategies or techniques to motivate the students. For the students, they should increase and often practice speaking English especially in teaching learning process. For the readers, they can use this research of game in teaching learning process. The last suggestion is for other researchers to do the same research but in different aspect. Skripsi ini menjelaskan tentang implementasi permainan tikus dan kucing yang digunakan oleh guru dalam mengajar speaking. Dalam penelitian ini, ada tiga fokus penelitian. Mereka adalah bagaimana guru menerapkan permainan tikus dan kucing pada keterampilan berbicara siswa, apa saja manfaat permainan tikus dan kucing dan apa saja kekurangan permainan tikus dan kucing pada keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas tujuh SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dan menggunakan penelitian deskriptif. Lokasi penelitian ini di SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan. Peneliti mempunyai dua batasan, mereka guru dan siswa kelas tujuh SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan. Tiga instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah interview, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Selain itu, peneliti menggunakan tiga tehknik untuk menganalisis data, mereka adalah pengurangan data, memindahkan data, dan kesimpulan atau pembuktian. Penemuan penelitian atas pelaksanaan permainan tikus dan kucing pada kemampuan berbicara siswa di kelas tujuh SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan berjalan sukses. Berdasarkan hasil interview dari guru dan sebagian siswa di kelas tujuh SMP Ma’arif 5 Pamekasan, guru mengatakan bahwa dengan menggunakan game tikus dan kucing siswa-siswa bisa meningkatkan kemampuan beerbicara mereka dengan membuat percakapan dengan dengan temannya. Permainan ini juga membuat kelas menjadi lebih interaktif dan menyenangkan. Siswa – siswa mengatakan bahwa mereka bisa mengerti dengan mudah apa yang mereka pelajari. Mereka juga merasa antusias dan aktif dalam belajar bahasa inggris. Itu menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara mereka lebih baik. Berdasarkan penemuan penelitian di atas, penelitian ini disarankan untuk guru yang diharapkan mampu menggunakan strategi atau teknik yang lain untuk memotivasi siswa. Untuk siswa, mereka seharusnya meningkatkan dan sering berlatih berbicara bahasa inggris khususnya dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Untuk pembaca, mereka bias menggunakan penelitian permainan ini dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Saran terakhir untuk peneliti yang lain untuk melakukan penelitian yang sama dengan aspek yang berbeda.
