Abstract
Keywords: Pronunciation, Regular Verb 2 and Verb 3 (-ed), Speech, Prabowo Subianto This study analyzes the misspronunciation in Prabowo Subianto's speech, with a particular focus on the mispronunciation of regular verbs in the past tense, marked by the suffix "-ed," during the Shangri-La Dialogue 2023 Forum organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Pronunciation, which consists of segmental and suprasegmental features, plays a vital role in effective communication. In the context of globalization, public figures must master not only content but also pronunciation to convey their messages accurately. This study uses a qualitative approach, applying content analysis to systematically identify and analyze the pronunciation errors present in Subianto's speech. Data were collected through observation of his speech on YouTube, highlighting Prabowo Subianto's pronunciation of -ed. Using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), this study aims to clarify deviations from standard pronunciation and contribute to the understanding of pronunciation problems among public figures. The results of this study indicate that there are 35 regular verbs pronounced in the past tense with the suffix "-ed" in the speech. There are three types of “-ed” pronunciations, namely P1, P2, and P3, with 24 pronunciation errors identified. The findings aim to raise awareness of pronunciation errors and their implications for effective communication among speakers in multilingual contexts.
