Abstract

Keyword: Diagnostic Test, English Language Skill, Differentiated Instruction. The diverse student population at SMP Negeri 2 Proppo poses a challenge for English teachers due to varying English proficiency levels influenced by factors like learning experiences and motivation. Using diagnostic tests to assess skills and implement differentiated instruction based on results is key to improving English learning outcomes for all students under the Merdeka Curriculum. There are three types of research focus in this study, first How is the implementation of diagnostic test differentiated instraction to determine the level of English proficiency At seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Proppo students, second What are the problems in the implementation of diagnostic tests and differentiated instraction in english language learning at seventh grade student SMP negeri 2 proppo, and the third What are the solutions in the implementation of diagnostic tests and differentiated of instruction in English language learning at seventh Grade Students SMP Negeri 2 Proppo The researcher utilized a qualitative method, employing observation, interviews, and documentation as instruments. Data validity was ensured through triangulation, including technical and time triangulation. Information was gathered from observation, interviews, and photographic documentation, with eighth-grade students from SMPN 2 Proppo acting as informants. Based on the research results, the finding there are two steps observation and interview. Teacher greeted students, outlined lesson objectives, used pictures for engagement, gave cognitive diagnostic test, grouped students by performance, and encouraged differentiated learning with technology and peer tutoring. In this study, there were four problems faced by teachers when implementing diagnostic tests and differentiated learning, including Students answer correctly by chance, Student lack confidence, different students understanding, limited resources. likewise, in this study there are four solutions to overcome the problems faced by teachers when implementing diagnostic tests and differentiated learning including create questions that are easy for students to understand, use the quantum learning method, use diverse methods, and using online video as learning
