Abstract
In the process of teaching, the process of selecting method and way which taken by the teacher is not base to the students’ proficiency capacity and it is not also oriented to the students’ contented to the way or method which is implemented by teacher. The teacher should think further with taking serious action, it can be done by implementing a method which gives significant effect to the students’ proficiency. Australian parliamentary debate is one of the solutions in English teaching particularly in teaching speaking. The focus of this research is on how the English teachers implement Australian parliamentary debate on teaching speaking at English Area of Latee (EAL) and what are the students’ and teachers’ responses on the implementation of Australian parliamentary debate. The purpose of this research is to describe on how the implementation critical debate on teaching speaking and the second is to find out the students’ and teachers’ responses on the implementation of Australian parliamentary debate on teaching speaking. This research is conducted to describe on how the English teacher implement Australian parliamentary debate on teaching speaking and to find out the students’ and teachers’ responses on the implementation of Australian parliamentary debate on teaching speaking. This research uses descriptive qualitative design. The researcher uses three ways in collecting data namely observation, interview, and documentation. Meanwhile, the subject of this research is the teachers and students in English area of Latee (EAL) Islamic boarding school of Annuqayah Latee. The result of the research can be concluded that critical debate is sequence of activity in skill development on teaching speaking at English area of Latee (EAL) with the purpose is to increase students’ speaking quality. Various responses given by teachers and students; Australian parliamentary debate helps students to think critically, broaden students’ perspective and make students are able to know new cases especially the current issue which talked in the public, motivates students to read constantly and help student in solving problem. Dalam proses pembelajaran, pemilihan sebuah metode atau cara yang di ambil oleh seorang guru tidaklah hanya berdasarkan pada kapasitas kemampuan siswa serta tidak hanya berpedoman terhadap senang tidaknya siswa pada cara atau metode yang diterapkan. Seorang guru harus berfikir lebih jauh serta mengambil langkah yang serius dengan cara menerapkan metode yang memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan siswa. Debat Australia parliamentary merupakan salah satu solusi dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris terutama sekali dalam pembelajaran speaking. Fokus penelitian ini adalah bagaimana penerapan debat Australia parliamentary dalam pembelajaran speaking oleh guru Bahasa Inggris di English Area of Latee (EAL) dan bagaimana respon-respon guru dan siswa terhadap penerapan debat Australia parliamentary tersebut. Sedangkan tujuan dari penelitian ini yang pertama adalah menjelaskan bagaimana penerapan debat Australia parliamentary dalam pembelajaran speaking dan yang kedua adalah untuk mengetahui respon-respon guru dan siswa terhadap penerapan debat Australia parliamentary dalam pembelajaran speaking tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui penerapan debat Australia parliamentary dalam pembelajaran speaking oleh guru bahasa inggris dan untuk mengetahui respon-respon yang diberikan oleh guru dan siswa terhadap penerapan debat Australia parliamentary dalam pembelajaran speaking. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan tiga cara untuk mendapatkan data yaitu observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Sedangkan subjek penelitian ini adalah guru dan siswa di English Area of Latee (EAL) Pondok Pesantren Annuqayah Daerah Latee. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan peneliti dapat disimpulkan bahwa debat Australia parliamentary merupakan serangkaian kegiatan development skill dalam pembelajaran speaking di English Area of Latee (EAL) dengan tujuan meningkatkan kualitas speaking siswa. Berbagai respon diberikan oleh siswa diantaranya: debat Australia parliamentary membantu siswa dalam berfikir secara kritis, memperluas wawasan siswa serta membuat siswa bisa mengetahui hal-hal baru terutama sekali isu-isu yang sedang ramai di perbincangkan publik, memotivasi siswa untuk terus membaca serta membantu siswa dalam memecahkan sebuah masalah.
