Abstract

Keywords: Comic Strips, Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text Reading is one of the things that greatly influence the knowledge of information for students. To comprehend the reading text are complicated for some students and often make them bored. To solve this problem, the use of attractive and appropriate strategy will be helpful. It is not only to make the students increasing their ability in reading but also could make them interested to read. This research has two research problems, that is: How the teacher uses of comic strips to the students reading comprehension in reading narrative text of tenth grade students at SMK Negeri 3 Pamekasan. And what are the advantages and disadvantages to in using of comic strips to the student’s reading comprehension in reading narrative text of tenth grade students at SMK Negeri 3 Pamekasan In this research, the researcher uses qualitative as an approach of this research and descriptive as kind of the research. The researcher uses three instruments in collecting the data; observation, interview and documentation. For analyzing the data, the researcher uses data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Then the researcher uses triangulation of data source in checking the validity of data. Comic strips are a pictorial story arranged in horizontal lines, or strips or rectangles called panels and read like a text from left to right. Comic strips consist of several panels and have several stories in the genre of humor, action, mystery, thriller, adventure, and so forth. In comic strips there are also several characters who speak in a limited time sequence, these characters can speak through balloons in which there is a dialogue. Comic strips can be found in places such as newspapers and the internet. The advantages in the used of comic strips are the readers' interest in comic strips in the form of a combination of images and words, low vocabulary, easier to understand and interesting. And then, it can help the students to understand content and context, motivate, help the readers to get the right visualizations, It improves children’s creative working skills, and to express their creativity. The disadvantages in the used of comic strips such as, students need computer access, limited range of facial expressions, need more time to search or to make it, makes students fall asleep with reading comics so that they forget about reading books if they don't get guidance from the teacher, the delivery of subject matter through comic media is too simple and the use of comic media is only effective for students with visual styles.
