Abstract

Keywords: Moral Values, Novel, Muallaf Moral value was anything related to good or bad behaviour and manner. Moral value became the most crucial things to be known and learned by human in their life. As human, it was very important to socialize and communicate with others in good way. Moral value needed to be taught in every level of education, especially in this modern era where students could be easily affected by western culture through social media. Therefore, moral value included one of the important purposes of learning that should be reached by schools. Educating students about moral value could be done through any media, such as novel. One of novel that could be used is Muallaf written by John Michaelson. Novel entitled Muallaf contained moral values that could give positive effects for human, including students, and could be applied by them in their life. There were two research focuses in this research. First, the researcher would analyse moral values found in the novel entitled Muallaf based on Linda and Richard Eyre’s theory. Second, the researcher would try to find the impact of novel entitled Muallaf for education. This research included library research which was used biographical approach and content analysis. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation and documentation. While, in analysing the data, the researcher used familiarizing and organizing, coding and reducing, then interpreting and presenting. The researcher checked the validity of data by using triangulation, especially source triangulation. The result of this research showed that there were twelve types of moral values found in the novel entitled Muallaf based on Linda and Richard Eyre’s theory, namely honesty, bravery, peace ability, self-reliance and potential, selfdiscipline and moderation, purity and pureness, loyalty and trustworthy, respect, love and affection, sensitive and not selfish, kind and friendly, fair and humane. Furthermore, moral values found in the novel entitled Muallaf could help students to learn about good attitudes and manners, so that it could help them to manage their behaviour to be well-behaved human.
