Abstract

Key Words: Teacher Strategies, Reading Habit, Vocabulary In learning English, there are four skills that must be mastered, including speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Reading is one of the important skills that must be possessed by students in learning English. However, many students do not like to read, even though reading is very important for students, one of which is that students will find new vocabulary that they do not understand when reading so their vocabulary will increase with the reading activity. There are three problems in this research. The first is what strategy the teacher uses to support students' reading habits to obtain new vocabulary in SDN Buddagan 2 Pademawu. The second is what obstacles the teacher finds in implementing the strategy to support students' reading habits to obtain new vocabulary in SDN Buddagan 2 Pademawu. The third or the last is How to overcome obstacles that teachers find in implementing strategies to support students' reading habits to obtain new vocabulary at SDN Buddagan 2 Pademawu. This research was conducted to describe the strategies used by teachers when supporting students' reading habits to obtain new vocabulary at SDN Buddagan 2 Pademawu, to describe the obstacles teachers found when implementing strategies to support students' reading habits to obtain new vocabulary at SDN Buddagan 2 Pademawu, to describe how to overcome obstacles that teachers find when implementing strategies to support students' reading habits to obtain new vocabulary at SDN Buddagan 2 Pademawu. Based on the results of this study indicate that there are three strategies used by teachers in supporting students' reading habits to acquire new vocabulary. First, using Interactive Instruction Strategies and Assigning Students to Read for 15 Minutes or Literacy for 15 Minutes at the beginning of the lesson. Second, ask questions whose answers are in the book. and the last one assigns students to read textbooks outside class hours. There are three factors that obstacle teachers in supporting students' reading habits to acquire new vocabulary, namely the lack of teacher creativity in the strategies used in the teaching and learning process, low student reading culture, and the influence of technology such as mobile phones, etc. Efforts made to overcome the obstacles found by teachers in supporting students' reading habits to acquire new vocabulary are to provide motivation or encouragement to students to read diligently, introduce books, and conduct training for teachers to improve teacher competence and teacher creativity
