Abstract

Keywords: Direct Reading Thinking Activity, Teaching, Reading Direct reading thinking activity is a strategy that encourage students to use their minds while reading a text. It guides students to ask questions based on what they read, make predictions on the story line and read further to confirm if their predictions were right. The researcher has two focuses. First, how does the teacher use direct reading thinking activity (DRTA) technique in teaching reading at the seventh grade of SMPI Nurul Faidzin? Second, what are advantages and disadvantages of using direct reading thinking activity (DRTA) technique in teaching reading at the seventh grade of SMPI Nurul Faidzin? Meanwhile the purpose of this research are first, to know how the teacher use direct reading thinking activity (DRTA) technique in teaching reading at the seventh grade of SMPI Nurul Faidizn. Second, to know the advantages and disadvantages of using direct reading thinking activity (DRTA) technique in teaching reading at the seventh grade of SMPI Nurul Faidzin. This study is a qualitative study using descriptive method of analysis. Researcher uses the technique of interview and observation in obtaining data from the teacher and the student. To interview the researcher also uses documentary images of interview made offline process and made online via whatsApp application and observation in field. The result of this study show the teacher use direct reading thinking activity (DRTA) technique in teaching reading at the seventh grade of SMPI Nurul Faidzin. She used DRTA in teaching reading to make the class more comfortable and can make student can more active. The advantages and disadvantages of using direct reading thinking activity technique in teaching reading, there are: help student to get an overall picture that has been, the disadvantages is often time consuming if class management is inefficient
