Abstract
Keyword : Students Difficulties, WhatsApp Voice Note, Sociolinguistic Online Learning The COVID-19 outbreak made teaching and learning activity turned into online learning with the help of digital applications. One of the digital applications that is often used is WhatsApp with one of its features, namely voice notes to deliver learning materials. The use of the WhatsApp feature in Sociolinguistic online learning delivered in dominant English by lecturers made the 6th semester students of TBI IAIN Madura academic year 2021/2022 become passive students, students only respond to greetings, but do not actively build discussion in online learning. Based on this, there are three problems that become the main study in this research, namely the first is what difficulties do the sixth semester students of TBI in IAIN Madura academic year 2021/2022 experience in comprehending the material of Sociolinguistic online learning from WhatsApp voice note, the second is what factors cause the sixth semester students of TBI in IAIN Madura academic year 2021/2022 to experience difficulties in comprehending the material of Sociolinguistic online learning from WhatsApp voice note, the third is how do the sixth semester students of TBI in IAIN Madura academic year 2021/2022 overcome the difficulties in comprehending the material of Sociolinguistic online learning from WhatsApp voice note. This research is a qualitative research and the kind of research is descriptive research. The data of this research collected from observation, interview, and documentation. The interviewee are the sixth semester students of TBI IAIN Madura academic year 2022/2023 from TBI A, B, and C classes. The validity of the data in this study was checked through triangulation. The results of this study indicate that : First, the difficulties experienced by sixth semester students of TBI in IAIN Madura academic year 2021/2022 in comprehending the material of Sociolinguistic online learning from WhatsApp voice note are accent, unknown vocabulary, listening length and speed, difficulty in getting a good internet signal, and newly known material. Second, the factors cause the difficulties are from characteristics of the message, characteristics of the listener, and characteristics of the environment. Third, the students overcome the difficulties by doing activities like playing and re-listening the voice note, looking for additional explanations from the internet, forcing themself to continue learning, increasing vocabulary mastery, and reading the explanation contained in the PPT.
