Abstract

Keywords: Telegram, Learning Media Toefl. Telegram is one of the most popular social media used as online learning media by one of the lecturers at Iain Madura which is applied in the Toefl class of sixth semester students of English department on Wednesday and Thursday. Telegram is used as an alternative learning media during online learning in a pandemic because telegram considered a suitable media which has some unique feature than other applications do not have. There are three research focus in this study. The first is How does the Toefl lecturer applicate the Telegram as learning media in the Toefl class of sixth semester students of English department of Iain Madura. The second is What are the students’ responses toward the use of Telegram as learning media in the Toefl class of sixth semester students of English department of Iain Madura . And the last is What are the difficulties in using Telegram as learning media and how to overcome those problems in the Toefl class of sixth semester students of English department of Iain Madura. In this research, the researcher uses qualitative as an approach of this research. The researcher uses three instruments in collecting the data; observation, interview, and documentation. For analyzing the data, the researcher uses data condensation, data display, and verifying conclusion. Then the researcher uses triangulation of data source in checking the validity of data. The result of this research that found by the researcher are: the first, Toefl lecturer use telegram as a platform to communicate with students from the beginning to the end of teaching learning. The essence of using telegram in the Toefl class is the material presented by presenter by using telegram features such as voice note, comment bot, and quiz bot. meaning the lecturer only supervises the presentation and gives some feedback of the presentation that has been made. Second, the students’ responses toward the use telegram as learning media is quite positive, the use of telegram considered to make the students happy, helpful, effective and interested. And the third, the lecturer and students has difficulties in using telegram such as poor internet connection and ignorance in operating telegram but they have their own way to solved those difficulty. Based on the result above, it is suggested for the students, the students have knowledge about the implementation of the use telegram as learning media. It is suggested for lecturer, this research is expected to give the lecturer insight on using telegram as learning media
