Abstract

Key Word: Students’ Perception, Blended Learning Blended Learning is a mixed learning system between face-to-face learning (offline) and a learning system that utilizes information technology (online). This system is also implemented at IAIN Madura campus, especially in the Speaking 1 class. The Speaking 1 class is a class that aims to train students to speak fluently in English. In this case, the Speaking class automatically requires the practice of speaking repeatedly. However, when the Blended Learning system is applied, when the class is online, these speaking practices will not be as optimal as when learning face-to-face. On the other hand, the campus urges lecturer not to use applications that consume quite a lot of Internet quota, such as Zoom. Therefore, this study aims to find out how the Speaking 1 lecturer implements the Blended Learning system in the class. Also, to find out how the perceptions of English Teaching Learning Program students in the 2021/2022 academic year who take the Speaking 1 class, towards the implementation of Blended Learning in the Speaking 1 classroom. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were the second semester students of the English Teaching Learning Program at IAIN Madura who took the Speaking 1 class. The researcher got the data from the interview and documentation with the Speaking 1 lecturer and to the students itself. The results of this study indicate that the majority of students had positive and negative perceptions of the implementation of the Blended Learning system, in which this is one of perception types according to Robbins’ type of perception. Positive perception can be seen from the large of students who stated that Blended Learning can make a conducive learning process, especially when the learning conducted offline. They also stated that Blended Learning can give a lot of benefits to them, such as save their time and costs, independently learning, even they can access the learning process wherever and whenever. While negative perception can be shown because when learning is online, there are many obstacles faced by students, such as the low level of student understanding of the explanation of the material, because students are easily sleepy when listening to explanations through voice notes, lack of interaction and speaking practice, poor signals and tend to spend a lot of Internet quota. It is suggested to the supporting lecturer to be able to provide more varied learning methods in online classes, so that learning does not tend to be monotonous. In addition, the lecturer must also explain about the clear division of time between the time of face to face learning and time for online learning. It is expected also that students will be able to adapt to this new learning system because this is the best way or solution from the government in the current transition situation
