Abstract
Keyword: Speaking, Small Group Discussion, Active Viewing The are some reasons why the researcher chooses small group discussion in speaking skill. First, small group discussion is one of the technique in teaching English that can improve skill of speaking and every shy passive student take part in communicative activities. Second, small group discussion is interaction technique which the student can feel enjoy if teaching English with it. Third, small group discussion not only solve the problem with discussion on the table but also practically responsible their argument in front of all friends in class. Giving students more chance to be involved in the class speaking. There are two types of research focuses in this study. First, how is implementation of active viewing by small group discussion strategy to the student’s speaking ability in the VII grade of SMPN 2 Pamekasan academic year 2023 and second how are The Students’ difficulties in implementation of active viewing by small group discussion strategy to the student’s speaking ability in the VII grade of SMPN 2 Pamekasan academic year 2023 The researcher used a qualitative approach with descriptive kind of research. Researched obtained data from, interview and documents such as photographs. The research informants were the student’s in the VII grade of SMPN 2 Pamekasan academic year 2023. Based on the research results, English teachers use active viewing techniques in the teaching and learning process and these steps. There are various student difficulties such as: effective classroom management, lack of time allocation, lack of ability to use technological equipment and materials, unable to assess student performance objectively, difficulty determining the appropriate type of assessment, complicated evaluation formats crowded classes, time provided insufficient, confusing implementation methods, low student skills, low student motivation, lack of understanding of the nature of language learning, lack of training.
