Abstract
Key word: Vocabulary Mastery, English Course Vocabulary is known as a collection of letters and then becomes a word that has meaning. Vocabulary is one of the most important parts in mastering language. If the students have a lot of vocabulary they will easier in understand the material of English, such as in reading, listening and also they will be able to express their idea in speaking skill and writing. But for student who has limited vocabulary, they will be difficult in English learning process. In fact, students English vocabulary mastery influenced by several factors such as extra lessons outside the classroom. Therefore, English course needed to make students easier to understand English vocabulary. Researcher compared between students who join and who do not join English course course in mastery english vocabulary. There are two problems in this study. The first, do the seventh graders students of SMPN 5 Pamekasan joining English course have better vocabulary mastery than the seventh graders who do not joining English course. Second, how is statistically significance the effect of joined English course and do not joining English course on student’s vocabulary mastery at seventh graders of SMPN 5 Pamekasan. In this study, the researcher used quantitative approach. The researcher conducts ex post facto design. The research instruments used are questionnaire, test and documentation. The population of this reseach is the seventh grade students of SMPN 5 Pamekasan. The samples of this research are 30 students of F class. The result showed that the 7 grade students joined English course have better vocabulary mastery than those non joined English course at SMPN 5 Pamekasan. It is proven by comparing the value of t-value with t-table. The tvalue is higher than ttable (2,982 > 2,04) in 5% significance level. Based on the results above, the English teacher is expected to be more creative to make students easy in understand the vocabulary. Students should active and spirit in studying vocabulary to improve their vocabulary mastery by joining English course.
