Abstract
Keywords: Speaking Skills, Excellent Class, Integrated Class. This research was backgrounded by classes which were divided into 2, namely excellent and integrated. The excellent class was students who were ranked 1-20, while the integrated class was students who were below it. After the researcher interviewed one of the teacher at MA Sumber Payung, the researcher found that the programs that were usually in excellent classes were not realized, their English teacher was same, the learning methods were same, as was the material. The researcher also found that students had difficulty understanding when the teacher was speaking and had difficulty expressing sentences when asked. Most students have poor vocabulary, so it is difficult for them to understand the conversation explained by the teacher. The researcher wants to know whether the students’ English speaking skills in excellent classes are better than integrated classes even though the program has not been realized. So, the problem of study in this research is “is there any difference of students’ speaking skill on excellent and integrated classes at tenth grade of MA Sumber Payung? This research used a quantitative approach with a causal-comparative design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a sample size of 28 students at tenth grade of MA Sumber Payung. Data collection used were through speaking assessment rubric and documentation. The data analysis used was the Mann-Whitney U test. Based on a comparison of the hypothesis results in excellent and integrated classes with analysis of speaking skills data, it can be seen that data processing using hypothesis testing (Mann-Whitney U) with SPSS 22 produces Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) of 0,014 < 0,05 at a significance level of 5% (0,05). The Mann-Whitney U test showed that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. So, there is any difference of students’ speaking skill on excellent and integrated classes at tenth grade of MA Sumber Payung and the students’ English speaking skill in excellent classes was better than integrated classes. In conclusion, there was a clear difference between students’ English speaking skill in excellent and integrated classes. The mean score is 9,14>5,43 which means that students’ English speaking skill in excellent class is better than the integrated class with a difference of 3,71. Therefore, the researcher suggest that schools further optimized existing programs in excellent classes.
