Abstract
Keywords: Analysis, Textbook, and Text Reading An English textbook is a fundamental tool in language education, providing a structured and comprehensive guide to learning the intricacies of the language. In this research, there are two research focuses were: how is the appropriateness of the materials and what are the strengths and weaknesses of the materials in the English textbook entitled “English in Focus” at the Third grade students of MTs Nurul Yaqin Gunung Sari Badung Proppo Pamekasan 2023/2024? The objective of this research are to find out the appropriateness of the materials and to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the materials in the English textbook entitled “English in Focus” at the Third grade students of MTs Nurul Yaqin Gunung Sari Badung Proppo Pamekasan 2023/2024. The method used in this research was library research. This research commited by identifying present knowledge in documents (source, reference, books, or other research results) for supporting the research. In this study, researchers collected data through observation and documentation. The data source from English textbook to measure students' reading levels in 2013, students at the third grade students of MTs Nurul Yaqin Gunung Sari Badung Proppo Pamekasan for the 2023-2024 school year. Checking the validity of data in this study was carried out in four ways, namely: credibility, transferability, dependability, and comfirmability. The results of this study showed several findings, there are several findings regarded the content of the English textbook entitled “English in Focus” for Third grade students at MTs Nurul Yaqin Gunung Sari Badung Proppo Pamekasan 2023/2024, researchers found that this book was suitable for ninth grade students, supporting their learning needs. The book consists of 5 chapters aimed at enhancing English language skills, covering listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Additionally, appropriateness measurement, as discussed by Michael V. Levine and Fritz Drasgow, is a method used to address test score discrepancies, focusing on identification rather than correction. Strengths of the textbook include follow-up activities, grammar explanations, and learning aids like the UN Challenge and glossary. However, weaknesses include an excessive workload for students, potential challenges for teachers in implementing media resources, and sections with language difficulty.
