Abstract
Key words: The Role of teacher, Literacy Culture, English Lesson Literacy is the ability to write and read. At Junior High Schoool of Ummul Quro Putri has implemented literacy activities since 2020, literacy activity program held on Mondays - Thursdays involving English language teachers and students. Researcher find the implementation of English literacy culture like disciplining reading activities before learning begins. Through literacy activities, the knowledge acquired by students will add to the breadth of science and information. Therefore, researcher interested in research conducting the research of the implementation of English literacy culture in English language learning. This study aimed to know how is the Implementation English literacy culture at Junior High School of Ummul Quro Putri,what is the role of teacher in implementing English literacy culture in Junior High School of Ummul Quro Putri, and what supporting and inhibiting factors in implementing a English literacy culture at Junior High School of Ummul Quro Putri. This research was conduced at Junior High School of Ummul Quro Putri Plakpak Pegantenan Pamekasan.The researcher used qualitative research, the procedure used in collecting data in this study are obsevations, interview and documentation. The result of the research showed that the application of literacy activities is carried out before the start of lesson readin for 10 – 15 minutes and then summarizing the readings. There are several roles of teachers in implementing literacy culture. First, teacher as a model, the teacher accustomed to reading before ordering his pupils to read so that the, teacher can be a guide for the students. The second teacher as motivator, the teacher always giving motivation about impotance of literacy in day to day activities at the beginning of learning activities. And the last teachers as facilitators, the teacher always corrects and evaluates every students ability to become a literate generation. As for the stage of literacy implementation, the first is the practice of enjoyable reading activities to stimulate the interest of students in reading. The second the interest in reading to improve literacy, and the third compulsive literacy based learning. As for inhibiting factors of literacy culture in Junior High School of Ummul Quro Putri is still low interest in reading in forming literacy culture, while the supporting factors in implementing literacy culture is the full support the implementation of literacy activities in schools as well as the avaibility of means and facilities that support literacy.
