Abstract

Key word: Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR), Strategy, Reading Comprehension. Reading comprehension is a process to get a precise understanding of the writer’s message through simustaneously extracting and constructing meaning by collaborating reader’s background knowledge and interaction and involment in written text. In other word, reading comprehension is a process to connect the idea from the text and prior knowledge to get information. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on reading comprehension among second grade students. This research used quantitative research with experimental design namely pre-test and post-test. In this design, there are two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. The population in this research was the second grade students, which consists of 144 students. The researcher used purposive sampling techniques to select the sample for this research. The teacher selected two classes as the sample: the experimental class with 19 students and the control class with 18 students. The data collection technique used tests, which are pre-test and post-test. Then, for the hypothesis testing, the data was analyzed using the T-test formula. The results of this study found that there is no effect on the use Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy. The researcher stated that the null hypothesis was accepted and the alternative hypothesis was rejected. This is evidenced by the results of the t-obtain lower than t-table. The t-table at the 5% significance level is 2,030 with df = 35. While the t-obtain is 0,328. It means that to<tt (0,328<2,030) so, the researcher stated that Students taught using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy don’t have higher achivement in reading comprehension than students taught without using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy. Therefore, the null hypothesis states that there is no effect on the use of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy on students reading Comprehension Achivemen at the second grade of Man Sampang.
