Abstract

Keywords: linguistic variation, dialect; discourse; slang, language teaching Specifically, the study aims to unravel the prevailing slang trends among students, and tutors, shedding light on the sociolinguistic dynamics that shape language usage within this educational institution. Looking at how students at IAN Madura use informal language, like slang, alongside the formal language used in school. Research focuses on the variations of slang that exist at Better School. The primary objective is to explore the extent of slang usage vary among different student demographics at IAIN Madura?, and how does the variation support communication within the school environment at Better school of IAIN Madura The method use in conducting the research is qualitative research with case studies, on analysing the data, the researcher use the triangulation of method (ie. observation, interview, document) to help in collecting the data to support the validity of the research. Through observations, it explores the impact of slang on communication dynamics and the perception of students and educators towards its use. Understanding these linguistic variations can inform pedagogical approaches and promote effective communication strategies within educational institutions. While the results indicate a rich tapestry of slang usage, with discernible patterns across different demographics. The findings not only provide insight into the linguistic diversity within the student body but also offer a nuanced understanding of how language functions as a dynamic social construct. This research has implications for tutor and English teacher, curriculum developers, and linguistic researchers. Understanding the intricacies of students language allows for the creation of more inclusive and culturally sensitive educational environments. Moreover, it contributes to broader discussions on language evolution and the role of slang in contemporary communication, offering valuable insights for academic and practical applications alike.
