Abstract
Keywords: Literature, Social Values, The Sea Speaks His Name. In this era, literature is not only used as entertainment, but can also be used as learning material in the Education sector, especially Language Education. Language and literature cannot be separated, because language is one of the important factors in the existence of literature. Literature itself is a work of imagination and creativity of a person who sends a social problem of his life into any forms of literary works such as short stories, novels, poems, dramas and others. According to Wellek and Warren, literature contains social problems that can be learned, one of which is social values. Social value is an attitude of various individuals that is used as a guide in behavior. And these social values are also found in literary works, as well as in novels. Therefore, the researcher is interested in conducting research on social values contained in the novel entitled "The Sea Speaks His Name" by Leila S. Chudori by using Notonagoro perspective. This research is a library research because when viewed from its characteristics it is the same as qualitative research, and it using historical research as its approach. The researcher obtained data from documentation of research subjects, namely “The Sea Speaks His Name” novel. And the data collection procedure is that the researcher reads and analyze the novel, and identifies the social values that exist in the novel. Based on the results of the research, the researcher found 13 social values in “The Sea Speaks His Name” novel, which are included in 3 kinds of social values perspectives from Notonagoro. These social values are 3 findings of material value, 3 findings of vital value, 1 finding of spiritual value in a form of value of truth, 3 findings of spiritual value in a form of aesthetic value, 2 findings of spiritual value in a form of moral value, and 1 finding of spiritual value in a form of religious value. And from these findings, the researcher also provides an explanation for the emergence of these social values.
