Abstract

Keywords: Morality, Moral values, Movie. Morality refers more to human behavior, morality being an efficient act and ethics describes the theoretical, systematic and rational thinking of human behavior. It confirms that morality and values are deeply related to society and the needs of every human being. Moral values are worth related to the goodness and badness of a person. Moral values can provide examples of good attitudes and culture that are inspired by people's behavior. Moral values can be obtained and learned from various sources, for example from movies. In this study, the aims of the research is an investigation related with moral values which are contained in “The Karate Kid” movie. The researcher used qualitative research with the research design was content analysis. The source used in this research is movie scenes and dialogues containing moral value in “The Karate Kid” movie.to get data. While the other sources were journals, articles, books, and previous scripts that could complete the main data. The researcher used observation and documentation in collecting data. As for content analysis used in data analysis. While the researcher used Linda and Eyre theories about the type of moral values. The results of this research indicate that there are 23 moral values found in “The Karate Kid” movie. More specifically: (a) moral values based on Values of Being with a frequency of 2 data of honesty, 2 data of bravery, 2 data of peace ability, 3 data of confidence and potentional, and 2 data of self discipline and moderation; (b) moral values based on Values of Giving with a frequency of 1 data of loyalty and trustworthy, 2 data of respect, 3 data of love and affection, 2 data of sensitivity and not selfish, and 4 data of kind and friendly. This implied that kind and friendly is the most dominant moral value that showed throughout the movie.
