Abstract
Keywords: Strategy, Grammar Strategy is an important scourge in learning that teachers must use. Strategies in learning can be interpreted as teaching and learning activities with teachers as teachers and students as students, there are also interaction activities about lessons with each other to achieve learning goals with maximum processes. Learning grammar is often a threat to language learners, because they have to learn many rules that must be considered when composing sentences. Students' interest in learning can increase significantly if they use appropriate strategies and approaches, one of which is the strategy of learning while playing, so that in the learning process students remain enthusiastic and do not feel bored in learning English, especially in grammar lessons. The phenomenon faced by the researcher is that students have difficulty understanding the lesson, so teachers need a strategy in overcoming the student's difficulties. From this phenomenon, the purpose of the study is to find out the strategies used by mentors in teaching tense and how mentors use these strategies in teaching tense which is a difficult lesson for students. This research used a qualitative approach. Researcher also used descriptive research because this study explained the strategies used by mentors in teaching tense and also describe the process of using strategies by mentors in teaching tense in Flower English Center at Al-Mujtama' Islamic Boarding School. The results of the study showed that mentors used students generated stories, EEE (Exploration, Explanation and Expression), mistake buster and tell me how game strategy. Students Generated stories strategy is used by mentor by giving a sentence and asking students to continue the sentence with their own sentences, this strategy can help students to express their own ideas in sentences. EEE strategies used by assigning topics and asking students to create a conversation in groups, this strategy can improve student-centered learning. The mistake buster strategy used by mentor by preparing several wrong verbs in the form of short sentences, long sentences or in narratives, this strategy can improve students' language production skills. Tell me how the strategy game used by the mentor by giving several cut pieces of pictures and asking students to match the pieces of pictures in an envelope, this strategy can make the learning process fun
