Abstract

Keywords: Sociolinguistics, Taboo Words, Peaky Blinders This research was motivated by the discovery of a problem, namely classifying taboo words in the series "Peaky Blinder Seri S.1 Eps.1” used in films with the aim of classifying and describing types of taboo words based on the perspective of Edwin Batistella (2005). There are two problem formulations that are studied in this research, namely: first, what are the types of taboo words used in Peaky Blinders Series season 1 eps. 1. Second, what are the functions of taboo words are used in peaky blinders series season 1 eps.1. Researchers used a qualitative approach with content analysis research type. The main source used is the “Peaky Blinders” series to find out the data needed. Meanwhile, secondary sources are journals, articles, books and theses related to this research to complement primary data. In collecting data, researchers used observation and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis and discussions carried out by researchers regarding Sociolinguistic Analysis of Taboo Words in Peaky Blinder Series S.1 Eps.1 Based on Edwin Batistella's Perspective, it can be concluded as follows: first, found 22 data relating to the types of bad words that used in this series consisting of 8 Epithet data, 4 Profanity data, 1 Vulgarity data, and 9 Obscenity data. In addition, 3 theories about the function of bad words used in this series, namely to draw attention to oneself, to show contempt, and to be provocative. Hopefully, this study explains the research and its objectives in relation to the research work. It is hoped that this research can be a lesson for readers so they can process words well when watching serials. The research that has been carried out will further open the door for future researchers to perfect and expand research related to sociolinguistic analysis of taboo words in serials
