Abstract
Key Words: Google Translate, Vocabulary Mastery In the current era of globalization, language is a tool that can help us communicate with each other. Vocabulary is an important component of language. By mastering vocabulary well, you can connect the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In this millennial era, internet technology allows everyone to access information from all corners of the world anytime and anywhere. One tool that helps internet users to speak foreign languages effectively is Google Translate. At Mts. Ziyadatut-taqwa Tlanakan, grade 8 students are lazy about learning English, they think English is difficult to learn, so they don't know much vocabulary, even though vocabulary is very important in language. Using Google Translate is very beneficial for students, one of which is that it can increase vocabulary mastery. The purpose of this research, to measure significant different in vocabulary mastery between the 8th graders who study vocabulary using Google Translate and 8th graders who study vocabulary not using Google Translate in MTS. Ziyadatut-taqwa Tlanakan. In this research, the researcher used a quantitative design. While kind of this research is Quasi-Experimental design. To collect the data, researcher used pre-test and post-test score, and documentation by taking the pictures during the research. The result of this research showed that there is significant different on vocabulary mastery of 8th graders students who using Google translate application and 8 th graders students who not using Google translate. It can be proven if the sig value < sig table, its mean that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. While the sig value > sig table, its means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. Sig table is 0,05. In the independent t-test show a sig value. (2-tailed) is 0.000, that is 000 < 0,05. Its mean that there is a significant different on vocabulary mastery of 8th graders students who using the Google Translate application and those who do not used. In other words, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.
