Abstract

Key Words: Teaching Method, Mind Mapping, Grammar Grammar is one of the important components in English and it is important to be learned to make correct sentences in English. Many methods that is used by teacher and students to teach and learn grammar such as mind mapping method. Mind mapping method is creative note taking technique in a visualization and graphic forms that is used to make people find it easy to enter information in their brains, keeping information in a long term memory and taking it out from their brain easily by engaging imagination and association. In this case, the researcher interested to conduct study related with teaching grammar by using mind mapping method at fifth grade of MI Miftahul Ulum Nagasari Congkop Karang penang Sampang. Then, this research has 2 research focuses that are how the teacher used mind mapping method to teach grammar and what the advantages and disadvantages of mind mapping method in teaching learning grammar. So that, the objective of this study was to know about how the teacher used mind mapping method to teach grammar and what the advantages and disadvantages of mind mapping method in teaching learning grammar. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative approach with descriptive research. The researcher also used observation, interview and documentation to collected the data. The data source of this research are the English teacher and fifth grade students of MI Miftahul Ulum Waru Pamekasan. The result of this study related with the first research focuses shows that The English teacher just used 2 steps of mind mapping method to teach grammar that include drawing illustration to represents the grammar material and making connected line represent sub topic of grammar material. Besides, related with the second research focuses shows that there are 3 advantages of mind mapping method in teaching learning grammar that include faster to understand grammar, using illustration, and the material that will be written is little. On other hand, there are 3 disadvantages of mind mapping method in teaching learning grammar that include not detail enough, spend and take a lot of time, disorganized to make maps.
