Abstract

Keywords: Cooperative Learning, Jigsaw, Speaking Skills This research was backgrounded by students’ English speaking skills that is very low, in each class there were only 1 until 2 students who could speak a little English. This is because the learning method used by the teacher was very monotonous, monotonous leaning is learning that only used one method to teach students. He only explains it using a whiteboard and marker as learning media, full English, gives lots of advice or no longer discusses the lesson. As a result, many students are sleepy, talk to their friends secretly, and not listen to what the teacher explains. There are two problems that are the main study in this research, namely: First, is there any effect of cooperative learning jigsaw type to the students’ speaking skills in Grade XII MIPA of MA Sumber Bungur Pakong Pamekasan? Second, how significant is the effect of cooperative learning jigsaw type to the students speaking skills in grade XII MIPA of MA Sumber Bungur Pakong Pamekasan? This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method, the design used is a control group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a sample size of 40 students of XII MIPA class at MA Sumber Bungur Pakong Pamekasan. Data collection used were through speaking assessment rubric and documentation. The data analysis used was the Mann-Whitney U test. Based on a comparison of the hypothesis results in the posttest with analysis of speaking skills data, it can be seen that data processing using hypothesis testing (Mann-Whitney U) with SPSS 22 produces Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) of 0,005 < 0,05 at a significance level of 5% (0,05). The Mann-Whitney U test showed that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Students who use the cooperative learning jigsaw type speak English better than students who do not use the cooperative learning jigsaw type. Cooperative learning jigsaw type is very useful for students to prefer and be enthusiastic about learning English, students can improve their English speaking skills so that they can be used in everyday life and career development. If students understand their learning, it will be easy for students to answer exam questions, especially for XII class which will soon enter campus. This depends on the teacher, if the teacher uses appropriate and fun learning methods, then students will be enthusiastic about learning.
