Abstract

Key words: Social Media, WhatsApp, Learning Social media has become a foremost part of our lives as people worldwide are spending many hours on this media. In the current era, learning is very modern, with social media it can make it easier for students to receive material. Social media may have the potential to facilitate well structured formal learning activities and to support flexible and free modes of learning such as social media WhatsApp. In this case, there was sixth semester students of TBI IAIN Madura who used WhatsApp as a media in developing their English learning. So that, the researcher interested to conduct the study related with the utilization of social media WhatsApp. Then, this research has 2 research focus that are how the utilization of social media WhatsApp in developing students’ English Learning on sixth semester students of English Teaching Learning Program at IAIN Madura and what are the factors that support the utilization of social media WhatsApp in developing students’ English Learning on sixth semester students of English Teaching Learning Program at IAIN Madura. So that, the purpose of this study was to know how the utilization of social media WhatsApp in developing students’ English learning and what are the factor that support it. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative approach with descriptive research. The researcher also used observation, interview, and documentation to collected the data that was gotten from the sixth semester students who used WhatsApp in developing their English Learning and screenshot of WhatsApp group as a media in developing their English learning as the source. The result of this study shows that most of the sixth semester students used a social media WhatsApp in developing English learning such as send and receive material, gathering information, and exchange knowledge and they also said that WhatsApp has many features and provide discussion group to explore and support students’ English learning. Then, Most of all students said factors that support students English learning in WhatsApp are easy to use, send and receive material and information, has various features such as chatting, voice note, call and video call, forum discussion that can be appropriate learning and also it is accessible and not complicated.
