Abstract
Keywords: Translation, Humor, Humor Translation The importance of humor in films as an element that can enhance the appeal and entertainment value for the audience. Translating humor presents a unique challenge because it is often context-specific and culturally nuanced. Therefore, this research aims to explore how humor in the animated movie "The Boss Baby" is translated from English to Indonesian, and to assess the acceptability of these translations. This study focuses on the field of translation, specifically on the translation of humor and the acceptability of humor translation in the subtitles of the animated movie "The Boss Baby." The objective of this research is to identify the types of humor present in the movie and evaluate whether these humorous elements are effectively translated into Indonesian. A qualitative descriptive method is employed to achieve these objectives. Valid data were gathered through personal observation of both the English and Indonesian versions of the movie. Instances of humor were identified, annotated, and categorized. The acceptability of the translated humor was assessed based on Nababan's parameters of source language into target language, utilizing the theory of acceptability rates assessment. The results indicate that there are seven instances of humor in "The Boss Baby" movie. Specifically, there are five instances of linguistic humor, one instance of universal humor, and one instance of cultural humor. The acceptability assessment concluded that four subtitles fall into the "acceptable" category, one subtitle falls into the "not acceptable" category, and two subtitles are categorized as "less acceptable."
