Abstract

Keywords: The Role of Parents, Online Learning. Parents have an important role in online learning, namely to act as teachers during learning at home. Maintaining relationships and communication with children and teachers, guiding children when conducting online learning, and following the teacher's suggestion for the good of children. There are two research focuses in this study. The first, what are the parents’ role in guiding children to learn English in online learning at second grade of SDN Kangenan 1 Pamekasan. The second, how are the parents’ role in guiding children to learn English in online learning at second grade of SDN Kangenan 1 Pamekasan. It aims to know about kind of parents’ role and how the parents’ role in guiding children to learn English in online learnig. The researcher used a qualitative approach with a type of descriptive research. Researcher obtained data from observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informant was a parent who has children at second grade of SDN Kangenan 1 Pamekasan. Based on the results of research, the researcher found that there are several kinds of roles carried out by parents in guiding children to learn English in online learning, namely to play a substitute for teachers such as always accompany their children in online learning and then providing explanations about learning materials although not all of them, but parents try their best for children to keep learning even at home, as a motivator such as giving advice by giving picture of successful person and always giving the lure of giving children a gift or reward so that the child is enthusiastic about learning, as a facilitator such as facilitating with android cellphones, internet data packages, stationery and dictionary, and as a director such as giving directions to children to always learn and not always play during online learning to achieve the future. Based on the results above, it can be drawn a conclusion for parents to pay more attention to children's learning, especially in English learning at online learning both in facilitating supporting needs for children when online learning and always establish good communication with teachers if they experience difficulties when guiding children.
