Abstract
Keywords : Language Style, The King’s Speech Movie. Language plays an important role in human life. With language, we can communicate and interact with people around us. sociolinguistics is a study of relationship between language and society. One of study learned in sociolinguistics is language style. Everyone has different language style. It depends on interculotor, context of the conversation, the situation and the purpose of the conversation. According to Martin Joos, there are 5 language style based on the level of formality, they are frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style and intimate style. This study focuses on the style of language used by characters in “The King’s Speech” movie based on Martin Joos’s perspective. There are two research focusses that become the main idea in this research, first: What are the types of language style found in The King’s Speeh movie, second; What is dominant types used in The King’s Speech movie. The research method used library research. This kind of research is descriptive qualitative. There are two kinds of data sources in this research, first: primary sources, they are The King’s Speech movie and script of The King’s Speech movie as the main data, second: secondary sources, they are several books, journals, and research from other researcher related to language style. While checking the data validity is using triangulation. The result of this research is that the researcher found all of the language style used by the characters in The King’s Speech movie . the five language styles found are frozen style 2 times, formal style 16 times, consultative style 4 times, casual style 13 times and intimate style 9 times. From these finding, the most dominat type used in The King’s Speech movie is formal style. Based on the finding and explanation above, the research show that the way you communicate with other people in your daily life is important and the language style used must be in accordance with the situation.
