Abstract
Keywords: Outstanding Students, Learning Strategy Learning strategies are one of way to improve learning abilities and also to facilitate the learning process, most students definitely have their own learning strategies that they use in learning, using learning strategies in their own way will produce pretty good results for students. Students can use learning strategies such as underlining a word strategy, copying a sentence or word, marking strategies such as shadow by highlighter to important words or sentence, using memorizing strategies, using memorizing strategies, use translation strategies, and can also writing new vocabulary strategies in their books, but not all students use all of these strategies, meaning that in one students they do not use all of the strategies mentioned. Only some of the learning strategies they use in the learning process in class. Students can use one of these strategies to improve their English skills and learn more easily in class, by using learning strategies the learning process for students will be easier. Based on this, there are two main problems that are the main study in this study, namely: firstly what learning strategy are using by outstanding students in English lesson, secondly how do outstanding students apply their learning strategy in English lesson. The researcher uses qualitative approach with analysis as its kind of research. The primary source used is analysis the students to find out the data needed. While the secondary source, it refers to books and journals that deals with the learning strategies of outstanding students in English lesson. To collect the data, the researcher used interview and documentation. The results of this study indicate that, from two research focus there, and from results observation has been conducted during in the class and also from interview from teacher and students, there are several learning strategies used by outstanding students when learning English in class, namely use underlining a word, shadow/highlighter strategy, translation strategy and writing new vocabulary strategy. To apply the learning strategy by writing new vocabulary in the book when studying, translate a sentence or a word are not understand, give underline and shadow to word or sentence are not understand. The conclusion there are several learning strategies used like, underlining, shadowing/highlighter, translate and writing new vocabulary.
