Abstract
Key Words: Google Translate , Vocabulary Mastery Language is a tool of communication and social control. Without language we cannot communicate, and express our feeling. Since English is used as a tool of communication between nation in the world, we must master it well. In education in Indonesia, English subjects are also considered important. However, students consider English subject to be difficult and boring, because English is very different from Indonesian in terms of structure, pronunciation, and vocabulary system. Vocabulary is one of the important aspects in learning English. in todays digital era, there are many application that are used for learning in education, as a application google translate which can used as media learning for students. Google translate is a application that can hone students vocabulary skill. And it can be a solution for students whose vocabulary still a weak. The purpose of this research, to find out whether there is a different between students those use application google translate and not using it on the 8th graders vocabulary mastery in SMPN 2 Larangan. In this research , the researcher used a quantitative design. While kind of this research is Quasi-Experimental design. To collect the data, researcher used pre-test and post-test score, and documentation by taking the pictures during the research. The results of this research found that the effect of application google translate on the vocabulary mastery of 8th graders students at SMPN 2 Larangan had an effect on students vocabulary mastery. The researcher state that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It is proven from the results of the t-value higher than t-table. T-table in the 5% significance level is 0,256 with degree of freedom is 57. However, the t-value of this research is 9,722. In this research, the results of data analysis, t-value higher than t-table in significant level. It’s mean that alternative hypothesis that state there is a better different by using application google translate on the 8th graders vocabulary mastery in SMPN 2 Larangan. So the alternative hypothesis (Ha) used by the researcher is accepted in this research.
