Abstract

Keywords: Discussion Methods, Students’ Enthusiasm. In the learning process, especially English lessons every student must have a different spirit and enthusiasm. Suitable methods are one of the ways a teacher in fostering the spirit of learning for students not only the techniques, classroom conditions and also teacher skills are also one of the causes of students' spirit of learning in the classroom. Like the discussion method, the discussion method is one of the methods that can be used in english learning, because by using the discussion method, students will learn something through the correct way of discussing with their friends, students are required to beactive in the classroom by discussing a topic provided by their teacher so that they feel challenged to be more enthusiastic in discussing under the leadership and guidance of a teacher.. The focus of the research in this study is how the use of discussion teaching methods in giving enthusiasm in learning English to students and what are the characteristic of students enthusiasm appear in the classroom when discussing so that they are more enthusiastic and spirit in the learning process. The purpose of this research is to find out how a teacher uses discussion teaching methods and to describe how the discussion method can give them encouragement and enthusiasm in discussing or in learning English. This study was conducted to find out how the use of discussion in the classroom and what are the characteristics of students' enthusiasm in the classroom. This research uses descriptive qualitative research design. In this study, researchers used three techniques to obtain data, namely observation techniques, interviews, and documentation. While the subjects in this study are teachers and students who have passion and enthusiasm in X class of SMA Plus Darul Ulum Blumbungan. The results of this study showed that: in the use of discussion teaching methods in the classroom affects the spirit and enthusiasm in learning English by using the right strategy given by the teacher to students and among the 9 cracteristic enthusiasms of students based on the theory there are 8 characteristics that appear when the discussion takes place. And there are also inhibitory and supporting factors of the use of discussion methods to provide enthusiasm to students. Based on the above results, it is recommended to students to keep fostering passion and enthusiasm in discussing or in learning English so that they can master and absorb the lessons well. And as Teachers are also advised to always be spirited and provide the right methods and strategies so that they can succeed in accordance with expectations.
