Abstract
Keywords: Discovery Learning, Strategies, Reading skills This study aims to describe the analysis of the use of Discovery learning model used by teacher in teaching Reading Skills of the students at MTs Mambaul Hikmah Rubaru. This research was conducted at MTs Mambaul Hikmah Rubaru. The subjects of this study were English teacher’s strategies who taught in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade in teaching reading skills using Discovery learning model. There are two main problems in this research. First, the researcher wants to know about what strategies used by teacher in teaching Reading skills in grade 7, 8, and 9 MTs Mambaul Hikmah Rubaru, and second, the researcher wants to know about how do the teachers think the Discovery learning model helps students. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. This type of research is descriptive. Data obtained from observation, interviews, and documentation. The source of this research is the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students of MTs Mambaul Hikmah Rubaru. In checking the validity of the data, researchers also used technical triangulation. The data obtained from this study are in the form of results of observations, and results of interviews gotten from the teacher about what are the strategies used by them in the process of implementing learning with Discovery learning model, and documentation results. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the Discovery Learning Model specifically for materials reading text related with descriptive, recount, and narrative text for students of MTs Mambaul Hikmah Rubaru. There are 6 steps in Discovery learning model: Stimulation, Problem statement, Data collection, Data processing, Verification, and Generalization. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that there are three strategies used by the teacher in implementing the discovery learning model of students in MTs Mambaul Hikmah Rubaru, namely: 1) Read a lots of Article in English, 2) Use Supporting Platforms, and 3) Inquiry learning.
