Abstract

Keywords: Students’ Perception, Whatsapp Voice Note, Speaking Speaking is known as one of the four basic English skills that really important to be mastered by student. But there are some students still face difficulties in learning speaking. Nowadays era, the activity of learning speaking is easy to do especially using one of the features in whatsapp application namely voice note. Voice note is the tool that allows the user to speak up easily. In this case, the researcher wants to know students’ perception of the used whatsapp voice note in learning speaking. There are two research focus in this study. The first, what are the college students’ perception towards whatsapp voice note in learning speaking at fifth semester students of English teaching learning program IAIN Madura in academic year 2021/2022. And the second, what are the strengths and weaknesses of using whatsapp voice note in learning speaking at fifth semester students of English teaching learning program IAIN Madura in academic year 2021/2022. The researcher used qualitative approach where descriptive as the type of this research. Researcher obtained data from documentation and interview by using whatsapp application. The research informant was at fifth semester students of English teaching learning program IAIN Madura. Based on the result, the students gave positive and negative perception towards the used whatsapp voice note in learning speaking. The positive perceptions is showed by the used voice note is helpfull tool to use in communicating in teaching learning activity, student can speak directly and naturally and can be a media to practice speaking. meanwhile the negative perception showed that voice note are bored and lack in transferring the material. In another side, there are some strenghts and weaknesses of voice note in learning speaking. the strenghts of voice note as like can be media to practice speaking, impact to speaking skill, easy to be used, give motivation to speak bravely and expressively and it is interesting tool. In the opposite way which showed the weaknesses of voice note as like voice note makes student get bored quickly, talking without meeting each other and wasting the capacity of memory phone.
