Abstract
Keywords: Speaking, Teaching Method and Direct Method Speaking in English is a crucial part of foreign language learning and teaching. Speaking plays an important role in daily life because speaking used by someone to communicate with others.The goal of teaching speaking should improve students’ communicative skills, because students should be able to use these skills in their daily life. Teachers also plays a crucial role in making the learning process effective and engaging. They can use various methods and media to enhance students' interest and learning outcomes. One of the interesting method in teaching speaking is Direct Method this method aims to make train the student to think critically, increase the student's motivation and make the effective learning experience. Related to this, the researcher is interested in conducting research on the implementation of the Direct Method on Student's Speaking Skill at the 8th Grade Students of SMP Sabilillah Sampang, because this method is very interesting in teaching speaking in the 8th grade student of SMP Sabilillah Sampang. This study aims to describe how the implementation of the direct method in teaching speaking at SMP Sabilillah Sampang as well as to find out the advantages and disadvantages of implementing this method. This research is a qualitative study using a descriptive approach. The data collection process was carried out using observation, interviews, and documentation methods. Then the data was processed and tested for validity using source triangulation and technical triangulation techniques. Then the data was analyzed qualitatively through three stages, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the English teacher used seven direct method steps to teach speaking that to be used in the learning process. There are four advantages of the direct method in speaking learning, namely increasing self confidence and student's motivation to learn. It is suitable for learning many aspects of speaking including; mastering vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation. Can create an active learning atmosphere and make students accustomed to speak English in daily life.
