Abstract

Keywords: Procedure Text, Reading Comprehension. There are four skills needed if you want to master English, namely Reading, speaking, listening, and writing. One of the subject matter taught by the tutor is reading comprehension. By applying reading comprehension, students are able to understand and analyze the essence of a text they read. In the application of learning reading comprehension, the tutor provides some material, one of which is material on procedure text, where in teaching procedure text, the tutor applies a new strategy. Procedure text is one of the English texts that presents the steps in doing or making something. There are two research focuses and two research objectives in this study. The first research focus is what are the strategies used in teaching reading comprehension of procedure text at the Members of Flower English Center of Islamic Boarding School Al-Mujtama’ Plakpak Pamekasan. The second research focus is what are the advantages and the disadvantages of teaching reading comprehension of procedure text using the strategies given by the tutor at the Members of Flower English Center of Islamic Boarding School Al-Mujtama’ Plakpak Pamekasan. The research objectives in this study are to describe the strategies used in teaching reading comprehension of procedure text at the Members of Flower English Center of Islamic Boarding School Al-Mujtama’ Plakpak Pamekasan, and to know the advantages and the disadvantages in teaching reading comprehension of procedure text using the strategies given by the tutor at the Members of Flower English Center of Islamic Boarding School Al-Mujtama’ Plakpak Pamekasan. This study uses a qualitative research approach, and the kind of research that use in this research is descriptive. This research uses three data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews and documentation. The researcher selected the tutors and students at Flower English Center of Al-Mujtama’ Islamic Boarding School. Based on the results of the research, the tutor of Flower English Center uses a group work strategies in teaching reading comprehension of procedure text. The tutor implements the strategy properly by paying attention learning style of each students. The tutor apply the strategies that are suitable for the students, so that the students can easily understand what is learned, because apart from guidance from the tutor itself, students can also ask to the groupmate related to the lesson that did not understand.
