Abstract

Keywords: Scratches in spare time, Teaching writing English is one of the most important languages. Writing is one way to communicate with other parties. Giving writing assignments is one way to improve students' writing skills. Students can using scratches in spare time in order to make students enjoy learning to write. The researcher interviewed the English teacher of ninth grade of SMPN 2 Pamekasan, The researcher found the problem in writing lessons. According to English teacher, Mr. Seger the students often feels emotionally heavy with 'writing' so he changes to 'scratches in sparetime' in order to make students enjoy learning to write. This reasearch has the problem of study, that is “How does the teacher use scratches in spare time in teaching writing of English for ninth grade at SMPN 2 Pamekasan in 2023-2024?” and “What is the advantages and disadvantages of using sractches in spare time in teaching and learning writing of English for ninth grade at SMPN 2 Pamekasan in 2023-2024”. To know the result of this reasech, the reasercher has formulated a problem study into the discussion. The subject of this research is ninth grade students of SMPN 2 Pamekasan. This research is qualitative research. The population was the English teacher and five students with the instrument in this reasearch who were the results of students writing. The reasercher collected data through interview, observation, and documentation. The reasercher analyzed the data by using descriptive analysis. The result of the used of scratches in spare time as follows; namely, teacher prepares the material to be given, teacher explains the material, teacher gives the student time to write, the teacher assigns the student to make the text of the English text, students write as many texts as they can then compile, the teacher give scratches assignment in spare time so that students can point their ideas and continue between paragraphs, teachers correct the results of the students work by giving feedback to the students writing, and the students get the advantages and disadvantages used of scratches in spare time in teaching and learning writing of English for ninth grade at SMPN 2 Pamekasan, the advantages namely, the students can explore the writing skills, the students have writing skill, and students increased knowledge vocabulary. The disadvantages namely students are lazy in submitting assignment, students find it difficult to find ideas, and students have difficulty to connecting the paragrahps.
