Abstract
Keywords: Grammatical Error, Writing, Diary Writing a diary has several benefits. One of the benefits is improving writing skills. Because they write on a daily basis, it will be their daily habit. Therefore, their writing fluency will be increased. But, In composing a diary is not easy as we think. Because, writer not only need a lot of vocabularies but also correct grammars, in order to be comprehensible. But in fact, the students do not pay attention to the correct grammar. Based on the preliminary research, the researcher find out that there are many grammatical errors in writing English diary made by member of English Club Annuqayah Lubangsa Putri. The focus of the study is to find out the types of errors, the common types of errors, and the causes of errors diary made by member of English Club Annuqayah Lubangsa Putri. This research is a discourse analysis research with a descriptive qualitative method approach. The data was collected from 15 students’ writing English diary made by member of English Club Annuqayah Lubangsa Putri. The result showed that the types of errors found in students’ writing are omission, addition, misformation,misoredering, and selection. The total errors found in the students’ written of English diary are 117 errors. it consist 23 errors of omission, 13 errors of addition, 25 errors of misformation, 2 errors of misordering, and 33 errors of selection. They make an error in omission because there is no structure in indonesian and madurese. While in addition, they make an error because students did not understand about the rules of English structure well. So that, they generalized the rule and applied it incorrect. The next is selection. Students are often produce errors in terms of word selections and spelling errors. This error happened because the students having lack of vocabularies and its use. While in spelling error happened because they do not know the writing of it vocab. The next is misordering. They make an error word agreement even sentence agreement. The last is misformation.. This errors occured the first language interference. Because, in their first language does not have the tense system that show the time of the event unlike English. Among those five errors that have been analyzed by researcher, selection is the most common errors produced by students in their writing. There are three causes of errors. Those are first language, intralingual error and the last is interlingual errors. Based on the discussion above, the students should pay attention the grammatical rules and vocabulary in writing English text. Beside it, the students should read a lot, in order know a lot of vocabularies and their use in a sentence. Because, mastering grammar and vocabulary can lead the students to make a good writing.
