Abstract
Key words: Anxiety, English syntax Anxiety is subjective feelings of tension, apprehension, nervousness and worry by activation or arousal of the autonomic nervous system. Anxiety is a condition where the person is filled with a tense, worried and fearful feeling of something he will face. Everyone has experienced anxiety, including students. Usually the anxious feelings of students arise when the process of learning. Anxiety in the learning process can be a serious obstacle when studying certain subjects. The researcher found a phenomenon that most of the fifth semester students of English department of 2017 felt anxious in English syntax class. English syntax is one of those difficult lessons. Because it is difficult lesson the students of TBI of fifth semester of 2017 at IAIN Madura difficulty understanding the material, it’s one of the reasons why the students in fifth semester of TBI of IAIN Madura feel anxious. Based on the explanation, there were three objectives of this study. The first was to know the problems cause the students’ anxiety in presenting syntax recitation in fifth semester of TBI at IAIN Madura. The second was to know the effect of students’ anxiety in presenting syntax recitation in fifth semester of TBI at IAIN Madura. The last was to know how the students reduce the anxiety in presenting syntax recitation in fifth semester of TBI at IAIN Madura. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research which focused on description. The location of this research was at IAIN Madura. In collecting a data the researcher uses three procedures. They are observation, documentation and interview. While checking its validity through triangulation of technique and time. The results of the research that have been conducted show that, there were some problems that cause students anxiety in presenting syntax recitation. The first was the method that used by the lecturer. The second problem was some students said that English syntax is difficult lesson and the students difficult to understand the material of English syntax. There were two effects of students’ anxiety in presenting syntax recitation. They are negative and positive impacts. And also there were two ways to reduce students’ anxiety in presenting syntax recitation. The first one was the students try to control their emotions by staying calm and relax when they are presentation. The second was the students study harder and mastering the syntax material.
