Abstract
Keywords:WhatsApp Group Features, Learning Media, Speaking Activities. The learning media is a tool to relay learning materials during the learning process. There are many kinds of learning media, one of which learning on the internet. During the pandemic COVID-19 internet based learning media that is being used in the WhatsApp Group which is one of the features of the WhatsApp. Using tha WhatsApp Group was an appropriate choice in learning English particularly speaking, since speaking is an oral communication between human beings so as to fit any features in the WhatsApp Group like voice note. The purpose of this research study id to discuss how the learning process particularly speaking activity uses WhatsApp Group and the strength of WhatsApp Group for speaking activities at the first grade of Science at MA Bustanul Ulum in Sampang with a qualitative descriptive. The research of this research study was the learning process particularly speaking activity using the WhatsApp Group as smoothly as offline learning in general, like there’s opening, a core activity and its closing just is no done in person, but the process still finds some difficulties like thin internet quotas, signal disruption to a lack of understanding of the teacher’s explanation. Nevertheless, any difficulties can be overcome using a few features in tha WhatsApp Group at once its strengths, such as easy to access, requires a little internet quotas, there is a voice note feature for speaking activity, can make a video call to see expressions of each other, sending photos and videos and link of YouTube or Google. Thus learning to use WhatsApp Group can enhance confidence skills as well as student’s curiosity in English particularly speaking. Based on the research above, it is suggested to the teacher to use WhatsApp Group well to enhance student’s skill particularly speaking and giving a game or ice breaking to the students in learning process to keep their mood and make an interesting class. It is suggested for students at first grade of MA Bustanul Ulum in Sampang to use voice note features well to improve English speaking ability.
