Abstract

Keywords: Independent, Online, Offline Learning English is not only can be done in the classroom, but many students learning English by independently to improved their English skills. Independent English learning is a study that processed by the students it self without any element of command from the lecturer or the teacher. Independent English learner can motivate themselves, monitor themselves, and manage the achievement of their own goals. Students of IAIN Madura especially in English teaching learning program was so familiar with independent English learning, especially with the sophisticated technology like today which makes it easier for students to study outside the classroom. But many students still take a part of independent English by joining an English course or joining an English campus course. This study aims to find out the types of independent English learning are applied by students English learning and the students responses on independent English learning. The researcher used qualitative describtive. The subject of this study was 10 students of English teaching learning program (TBI) in the 7th semester academic year 2022-2023 of IAIN Madura. Meanwhile, the data collected from interview and documentation by using whatsApp application. To analyze the data, the researcher used data reduction, data display, drawing and verification. While to check the validity of data the researcher used data source triangulation. The researcher would like to make conclusion of this research, from the findings of the types and students responses of the study of students independent learning at English teaching learning program of IAIN Madura, it can be stated that the types of independent English learning are applied by students of English learning has two types, which of them are offline and online independent English learning. Students gave a responses, such as positive and negative responses. Based on the research discussion, there are several types of independent English learning that are applied by TBI students at IAIN Madura. The types of independent English learning are offline and online. The students perceptions on independent English learning most of them is felt comfortable when doing it.
